Waiting in Hope

Hope has an element of expectation. That means we have not yet received—we may be in a time of waiting, pause, or rest.

Perhaps it’s more important to take a minute to connect and say hello to you all than it is to study the dictionary. In our lives and relationships, we don’t do only one thing. We listen. We share. We do what needs to be done. We take time for rest. We enjoy an activity with other people. This is a busy time of year for many, and you’re probably balancing one or two or all of the above. Let’s call this part of the week—this blog post—part of the rest.

As I reviewed last week’s post, one question stood out to me.

How can we make the most of our spiritual journey through this life?

There are times to dig deep and study God’s Word and all it has for our instruction.

And there are times to slow down and enjoy what He has placed in our path this moment. Yesterday I had nine hours by myself in the car. A perfect time for a lengthy monologue “with” God—or not. Off and on I had a few coherent thoughts, and other times I simply noticed the scenery.

I hope you’re on your way to one or more enjoyable moments on this three-day weekend, whether a family gathering, celebrating a special occasion, or taking a walk in the beauty of this season. By next week we’ll be ready to find hope in 1 Peter again.

  1. Thank you, Tracy. You’re so right. The way my brain is anymore, I often feel like I just can’t take in anymore information. Many “good” things I come across, I just have to skip. Rest is often what’s needed. And God’s creation–it DOES speak to me when nothing else does. Thanks again for the reminder.
